New AA meeting for community
Trans and Sober meets on the first Sunday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Gender Identity Center, 3895 Upham St., Suite 40, in Wheat Ridge. Open to all members of the GLBT community.

Do you work with the Elderly population?
Many of your clients may be LGBT and you may not even know it. Thousands of gay people live in nursing homes and assisted living facilities without any staff or other residents knowing critical parts of their lives. These elders are deprived the opportunity to be themselves and to tell their story. They miss out on true inclusion in their own community because they have to be guearded about what they say. As a result, staff and residents never get to truly know them. Finally, they are deprived the life review process necessary for a good death.

There are many simple techniques to let your clients know that your organization is culturally competent in LGBT issues. Things as simple as changing the wording on intake forms or placing the "Safe Zone" flyer for all to see.

Want to learn more? There are seven local staff and volunteers that have attended the Project Visibility training sponsored by Boulder County Aging Services. They are available to come to large of small groups of staff and volunteers at your organization to further educate on how to become open and supportive.
